About
Daniel Connolly is an illustrator, printmaker, and building surveyor, based in Lincolnshire.
Whilst studying for his BA (Hons) in Illustration, Dan was encouraged to explore printmaking as an extension of his early pen-and-ink line work. This exploration formed a love for intaglio processes, specifically copper plate etching and engraving.
After leaving the confines of the well-stocked university print room, Dan built a small, self-sufficient home studio.
Working primarily in black or sepia inks, his subjects range from anatomical and architectural studies to landscapes, seascapes, and, more recently, automotive themes. Select pieces are hand-finished with watercolour and gouache, with some printed using a surface roll technique to add colour gradients.
His interest in architectural illustration led him to complete an MSc in Building Surveying, which expanded his practice to include the use of modern CAD software for creating architectural plans and illustrations, complementing his work in traditional media.
